BuildGauge / Methodology

Every recommendation needs a reason.

Our scores describe recommendation fit inside BuildGauge. They are transparent planning tools, not externally certified benchmarks.

Structured product data

BuildGauge uses curated local catalogs with product identity, typical planning price ranges, modeled capability and value tiers, compatibility fields, use cases, warnings, and active status. Catalog records can change as products and recommendation guidance are reviewed.

Inputs and constraints

Recommendations consider maximum budget, workload, target experience, compatibility, priorities, stated preferences, and existing equipment where relevant. Hard validation catches missing components, unrealistic targets, avoidable duplication, and other contradictions.

Fix My Build audits

Fix My Build evaluates a proposed parts list against the stated use case, display target, workload, budget allocation, component balance, upgrade path, and modeled catalog compatibility. Its Audit Score decomposes into performance fit, value, balance, upgradeability, compatibility, and efficiency. Results are buying recommendations, not compatibility certification.

User-entered prices take priority; otherwise the audit uses estimated planning ranges, never live retailer prices. Always verify exact sockets, memory support, dimensions, thermal requirements, power recommendations, and other manufacturer specifications before buying.

BuildGauge Scores and Confidence

A BuildGauge Score decomposes into visible weighted factors such as workload fit, value, ergonomics, or upgradeability. It is not a laboratory benchmark or certification. Recommendation Confidence is separate: it describes how completely an answer set matches validated profiles and how many assumptions remain.

Planning price ranges

Price ranges are estimates for planning. BuildGauge does not currently claim live retailer pricing or availability. Users should confirm current prices, exact specifications, warranties, software requirements, safety ratings, and compatibility with the manufacturer or retailer.

Commercial independence

Affiliate-link availability is not a ranking or audit factor. Adding or removing a retailer URL does not change the BuildGauge Pick, Audit Score, finding severity, optimized build, alternatives, or spend advice.

Safety and compatibility

Deterministic checks reduce obvious conflicts, but they do not replace manufacturer documentation or qualified supervision. Verify safety-critical electrical specifications, monitor-arm ratings, dock support, software platforms, and complete PC clearances before purchasing or use.
